Academic coordination

The Master’s Coordinator acts as the representative of the Master’s Programme and is responsible for its day-to-day management and administration.

The Coordinator will be elected by the teaching staff of the Master’s programme from among the permanent academic staff of the University of Granada. In research-oriented Master’s programmes, the Coordinator must have at least one research productivity period (sexenio). In accordance with Article 12 of the Regulations governing the Master’s Degree Programmes at the University of Granada, approved by the University’s Governing Council on 18 May 2015, the duties of the Coordinator are as follows:

  • To chair the Academic Committee.
  • To act on behalf of the Academic Committee.
  • To ensure that the tasks entrusted to the Master’s Academic Committee and the Quality Assurance Committee are carried out.
  • To ensure the organisation of the Master’s academic activities and that all tasks assigned to each lecturer are carried out, including the Master’s thesis and the external placements.
  • To inform the Departments of the participation in the Master’s programme of teaching staff from the various fields of knowledge comprising the Department and to submit the annual teaching plan for the MA programme to the centre.
  • To coordinate the development and monitoring of the curriculum.
  • To propose to the International Postgraduate School, within the deadlines set by the latter, any changes regarding the academic offer, structure or teaching staff approved by the Master’s Academic Committee.
  • To inform the Postgraduate Teaching Advisory Board on all general or specific matters for which it is convened or for which its reports are required.
  • To disseminate to the teaching staff of the Master’s programme any information related to academic management.
  • Any other duties assigned by the competent bodies.

 

The Academic Committee of the Master's Degree is the collegiate body responsible for the academic direction and management of the Master's Degree. It will exercise its functions for a period of six years.

In accordance with Articles 9 and 10 of the Regulations governing the Master’s Degree Programmes at the University of Granada, approved by the University’s Governing Council on 18 May 2015, the Academic Committee shall be composed as follows:

  • The Coordinator of the University Master's Degree
  • Up to five members representing the teaching staff teaching on the University Master's Degree, elected by and from among the teaching staff of the University Master's Degree
  • A representative of the students, who will be elected each year among and by the students of the University Master's Degree
  • In University Master's Degrees that include external placements, there may be a representative of the companies and/or institutions involved in such placements. He/she shall be proposed by the Coordinator of the University Master's Degree, having heard the companies and/or institutions.
  • Whenever necessary due to the matters to be dealt with, the participation and advice of the Director of the International Graduate School may be required, who may delegate to a member of his/her management team or to a member of the corresponding Branch Standing Committee of the Graduate Education Advisory Board. Likewise, the participation and advice of the Administrator of the International Graduate School, or a member of the administrative and service staff delegated by him/her, may be required for issues related to the administrative management of the Master's Degree.
  • One of the teaching staff representatives, appointed by the Master’s Coordinator, will act as the Committee Secretary.

 

The functions of the Master’s Academic Committee are:

  • To assist the MA Coordinator.
  • To draw up its internal regulations.
  • To draw up the proposed curriculum for the MA programme.
  • To carry out the selection of students.
  • To propose amendments to the specific entry requirements, student selection criteria and the number of places offered to the Advisory Board for Postgraduate Studies (CAEP) for approval.
  • To organise the teaching programme.
  • To draw up, before the start of the academic year, the teaching programme, timetables and classrooms required for the delivery of the curriculum, including all aspects set out in the guidelines for the MA thesis module.
  • To assign a tutor to each student from among the Master’s programme’s teaching staff for the MA thesis module.
  • To establish uniform assessment criteria and resolve any conflicts that may arise in this regard.
  • To submit proposals for credit recognition, as requested by students, to the CAEP.
  • To propose the panels responsible for assessing MA theses.
  • To propose, prior to the start of the academic year and within the deadlines set by the International Postgraduate School, any changes to the course offerings, teaching staff or structure of the study programme deemed appropriate.
  • To manage external placements.
  • To manage staff and student mobility.
  • To manage the resources of the MA programme.
  • To appoint the Internal Quality Assurance Committee of the MA programme, whose composition and functions must be defined in the degree proposal.
  • To appoint such committees as the Academic Committee deems appropriate for the optimal delivery of the MA programme. The activities and proposals of these committees must be subject to the approval of the Academic Committee.
  • To ensure mechanisms are in place to safeguard the rights of students enrolled on a suspended degree programme (the Academic Committee of the suspended Master’s programme or that of the Master’s programme replacing it) until its completion, and to enable students to pass the modules once they have been definitively suspended.
  • Any other duties assigned to them by the competent bodies.
