Conferencia: Translational research at the point of care
Translational research at the point of care seeks to bring new diagnostics, therapies, and educational approaches to the clinical setting where medical decisions are made, and treatment is provided. Emergency medicine is a field where initial medical care must often be provided without complete information or definitive diagnosis. As such, it is one of the fields in medicine that can benefit most from rapid diagnostic tests that do not require a central laboratory or expensive equipment. Point-of- care research can also bring advanced testing capabilities into rural communities and homes. Successful translational research in this setting requires collaboration between engineers, scientists, and physicians. In this presentation, we will discuss strategies for interdisciplinary collaboration in point-of-care research. We will describe recent and ongoing projects including minimally invasive microneedle-based sampling and breath testing
