Connected graded Hopf algebras and pre-Lie algebras

In the first part of this seminar we will briefly introduce the notion of

connected graded Hopf algebras. After giving some examples, including the

shuffle/quasi-shuffle Hopf algebra, the Butcher-Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra

of rooted trees, and the Faà di Bruno Hopf algebra, we will explore in more

detail pre-Lie algebras. The latter appear in various areas of mathematics,

such as numerical analysis, control theory, quantum field theory and

combinatorics.
