Professional Prospects

The sector of the pharmaceutical industry in Spain represents 1.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) and employs more than 4,000 people directly in more than 270 companies. It is the industry leading investment in research and development (R+D+I), representing 18% of all industrial private investment. Employment is stable and high quality: a third are graduates, of which 10%, approximately, are dedicated to research work, representing almost 15% of researchers working in the Spanish industry.

However, the biggest cost driver in the current pharmaceutical industry is not the manufacture of medicines, nor investments in research and development, but the costs of marketing or promoting their products, including millionaires outlays for market research , analysis of competitors, operational strategies, distribution, promotion, advertising and product sales and administrative costs needed to maintain multinational structures in a global market, including large investments and astronomical salaries to their main executives.
